Unknown (The Secret Life of Cassie Martin #1)(47)
“We’ll tell her. There have been shots fired twice now. They must not be telling any parents because I know mine would have pulled me out by now,” Noah states.
He’s right. I haven’t seen any police, either. I don’t think Smyth or Carlton will say anything unless someone gets hurt, and maybe not even then.
“What are they covering up, and why? It’s easy enough to cover this up since no one got hurt, but what’s the point? We have too many unanswered questions,” Lucca asks the same questions floating around my head. I’m glad we’re all on the same page with this.
“We need to keep an eye on Smyth and Carlton. We need to convince Cassie to stay away from them, though. She has a bad reaction to both. Maybe we can get closer to Kelly and figure out what she knows.” Stupid no phone rule sucks because I would call my dad for advice. He would most definitely yank me out, though.
“Too bad Mindy is such a bitch, or I would speak to her about talking to her dad. I agree we need to keep Cassie away from Carlton and probably Smyth. Carlton for sure,” Parker says. “Cassie was so hot when she was going off on Smyth. I thought he was going to march her back to her cabin so I was shocked when he nodded us back here.”
“You bring up a good point about Smyth. What’s his deal? Parker, maybe you can talk to him after you check in with the girls. Oh, and I wouldn’t let Cassie hear that you think she’s hot when she’s yelling.” I laugh at him then, but my laughing shakes Cassie slightly.
“Jay?” she mumbles.
Crap! I woke her up. “Shhh. Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you. Are you feeling okay? Does your head hurt?”
“I’m okay,” She responds but sounds a little confused.
“Try to go back to sleep,” I whisper to her as Parker rubs her back.
She yawns and snuggles in closer. She’s out again quickly.
Parker rolls over and says something I can’t hear to Lucca and Noah before turning back to me. “Night, Jay,” is all he says before he lays back. He doesn’t stop rubbing Cassie’s back, though.
“Night, Parker. Nights, guys.” As I settle down on my side of the blanket, and Cassie cuddled up against me, I worry about what tomorrow will bring. What secrets is the camp hiding from us, and how can we keep Cassie safe?
The unknown looms over us.
