Misadventures of a Rookie (Misadventures #11)(34)

She was breathless, her pupils dilating as she gasped for breath. “Everyone knows that Gus the Bus hits and runs.”

“Maybe because I haven’t met anyone to station up at,” I said softly. When her lips curved, I chuckled. “Damn, that was corny.”

“So damn corny.” She laughed.

I inhaled hard, wrapping my bad arm around her and bringing her in closer. “But really, Bo, I didn’t intend on not seeing you after tonight.”

She didn’t believe me. I could see it in her eyes. Hell, I almost couldn’t believe I said it myself, but I meant it.

“I’ve been told that before.”

Moving my hand into her hair, I ran my thumb along her eyebrow and smiled down at her. “But you haven’t met someone like me.”

She laughed slightly. “He was everything like you, only you’re hotter.”

“Well, at least I have that.” I grinned. “I think you should just let it happen. We can think about the other stuff later.”

She bit her lip, and a breath rushed out of her as she slowly shook her head. “I can’t do that. Just in the time I’ve known you and sorta not hated you, I’ve been distracted with thoughts of getting you naked. If I do take you to my bedroom and let it happen, then that’s it, I’m gonna be crushed. I can’t be that girl again, Gus. I was pathetic. I mean, you don’t even know. I was…” She struggled with the words. “I made a bad decision, and I can’t let it happen again. I know the warning signs, and you are one huge warning sign.”

No one had ever called me that before. I have been called a lot, but never a warning sign. I understood what she was saying. She’d been hurt before. I got it. She was obviously still bitter. But it was time to get it on with someone else and fucking enjoy it. But that wasn’t the way Bo thought. She saw long term, she saw forever, the future, while I was living for the now. Clearing my throat, I nodded. “I completely respect what you’re saying, but I really want you.”

Her face broke into a wide smile. “I really want you. But there is no guarantee that you’ll call me tomorrow, which scares me.”

“What if I stay and I don’t leave until tomorrow?” I suggested.

“Your new dog?” She laughed.

“Oh yeah, I do have to go home to see her and make sure she’s good,” I said, and then I nodded, moving my nose along hers. “I can guarantee you I’ll call tomorrow.”

She slowly moved out of my arms, shaking her head. “Again, I’ve heard that one.”

At that moment, I decided I wanted to kill the fucker who had hurt her. I wanted to say something, some line, though I wasn’t sure what. I hadn’t had a girl reject me as hard as Bo was, and I think that was what was holding me up. Women loved me. I was irresistible. Yet I understood what she was saying. I got it… I just didn’t like it. When my phone vibrated in my pocket, probably with an email, a light bulb went off in my head. Reaching into my pocket, I pulled out my phone and held it out to her.

She looked down at it and then back at me as I said, “Take it. My life is in this electronic device, and when I come back for you, I’ll pick it up.”

She blinked. “What?”

“You said you need a guarantee. Here it is,” I said, reaching for her arms the best I could with my bad hand before placing my phone in her hand. “It’s unlocked. I have nothing to hide. I think there are some videos, so get some popcorn and watch the show. If you’re still moving once I’m done with you.”

She gasped as she glanced back up at me. “You’re serious?”

I nodded. “I know for a fact Sweetie and I are going to come by tomorrow to go hang out on the beach with you. You can give it to me then.” She was speechless, just the way I liked her. Reaching for her by cupping the back of her neck, I brought her in, our mouths so close that all I had to do was dip a little and I’d be kissing her, but I wanted to hear her consent.

“Let me take you to bed, Bocephus Jane St. James.”

She let out a long breath, her eyes burning into mine as she rested her hands against my chest. The top of my phone, still clenched in her fist, dug into my pec, but I wasn’t moving. I was trapped by her beautiful gaze. Her seductive lips.

Her.

All of her.

Bo.

Or that long-ass name she had, either way.

“I thought you just take what you want?” she asked breathlessly.

“You’re right, I do. But with you, I want you to want to give it to me. It means more that way.”

As the silence stretched between us, I wasn’t sure what was happening.

But there was no stopping it.

Chapter Nineteen

Bo

I couldn’t say no if I’d wanted.

Thank God I didn’t have to.

Crashing my mouth to his, I dropped his phone and slid my fingers into his hair. As we kissed, we moved into the apartment. The door slammed shut as his fingers bit into the small of my back. He clung to me, my center pressed against his thick, hard cock. Gasping against his mouth, I couldn’t believe I had given in, but then, who was I kidding? I tried. I really did. It just didn’t work.

I wanted him.

And my heart, well, it would just have to wait and see what happened.
