Unfinished Ex (Calloway Brothers, #2)(103)
On the show, it’s almost comical how Nicky struggles to get up from the couch when she goes over to do the weather. Why don’t they have her go over during the commercial break? I swear Xuan Le loves the fact that Nicky’s pregnancies have both been watched and followed by XTN’s adoring fans. Viewership increased twenty percent after Nicky announced her pregnancy with Aurora and has stayed up ten percent ever since. Nicky has earned every penny they pay her, even if she tells me constantly that she’s overpaid. Knowing Nic, she’d do the job for free.
I watch her in awe. Even after all this time, she’s still passionate about reporting the weather.
I’m not sure how many different spins you can put on a snowstorm or a waterspout, but she keeps coming up with more interesting ways to do it. She’s doing what she was born to do.
The girls run inside, Matthew and Heisman trailing behind. “Daddy, we’re thirsty,” Aurora and Ashley say at the same time.
I keep one eye on the TV and walk to the fridge, getting three juice boxes. I hand one to each of the girls and pierce Matthew’s straw through the box for him.
“There they are.” Calista comes through the back door. She eyes the show. “Nicky looks pretty today. I love that color on her.”
The blue maternity dress she’s wearing flatters her large belly and matches the pendant she still wears to this day. I still wear my ring, too, a constant reminder of what we lost, yet what somehow bonded us back together.
“She’s beautiful,” I say, unable to take my eyes off her. She’s as gorgeous as the day we married.
Correction—the two days we married.
“Hi, Mommy,” Aurora shouts at the TV as she dances out the back door.
Everyone else follows. “I’ll be out in a minute,” I say. “Show’s almost over.”
“Grab that sunscreen,” Nicky says. “And if you have a friend with a boat, today might be a good day to—” She stops mid-sentence and looks down. I have déjà vu as I can clearly see the puddle forming beneath her. They don’t cut. Of course they don’t, this is Nicole Forbes, weather darling of XTN.
“Oh, boy,” she says. “Or should I say girl?” Nicky’s mouth turns up into a grin, and she stares right into the camera as if the camera is me. “Here we go again.”

I hope you enjoyed Jaxon and Nicky’s story. To continue the journey with the Calloway brothers, you’ll want to read Cooper’s story, Untaken Twin, which you can pre-order now. It’s a forbidden love romance you won’t want to miss!
There’s only one thing worse than your fiancé dying…
Having to look into his face every damn day. Or should I say the face of his twin.
So I left.
I never knew promises were made. Then broken.
And I surely never expected those promises to be about me.
When I return to my hometown and see his face, the heartache I’ve been running from is front and center. But it becomes harder and harder to keep hating the man who looks exactly like the man I loved.

Unfinished Ex is my twenty-third book. Whoa!
As always, there are so many people whose hard work went into making it happen. Without my incredible team of supporters, experts, editors, and beta readers, I would have quit after three books.
My amazing list of beta readers is long: Joelle Yates, Shauna Salley, Laura Conley, Heather Carver, Ann Peters, Michelle Fewer, and Tammy Dixon. The honest critiques I get from you only make my books better, and for that I’m eternally grateful.
Thank you to my copy editor, Amanda Cuff, and my PR peeps at Social Butterfly.
Details matter, so my sincere appreciation goes out to Kimberly Kernek, M.D. FACOG (fellow of the American college of obstetrics and gynecology) for schooling me on Asherman’s syndrome.
Although I’m sure I took some creative liberties, your guidance helped immensely.
Last, but certainly not least, thank you to my wonderful assistant, Julie Collier, who makes me feel like she’s at my beck and call 24/7.
I’m in love with these trash-talking Calloway Brothers, and I can’t wait for you to dive into Cooper’s very personal and painful story. But you know me—you can always expect an HEA!
