“Never,” Gaige said. “Better to ignore him.”

“… and after she rubs it for a few minutes, it’ll get harder and thicker… but that’s okay…”

Brody gritted his teeth. “She was one of Erik’s nurses. She’s got herself into some deep shit. Involved with a guy.”

“Boyfriend?”

“I don’t know. I don’t care. Not like I’m going to go and f*ck her.”

But I’d like to. Oh, f*ck, man, I want to.

“Then I will,” Blaine said. “Christ. You can’t bring that in here and not let it be taken care of.”

“Listen to me,” Brody said. “The shit that went down with the drugs. Chief called Miller about it. I think she knows something about it.”

“Fuck,” Gaige said. “Bring her ass out here right now then. We’ll strap her to a table and…”

“Oh, don’t do that to me,” Blaine said. “Don’t talk about strapping a chick to a table. You know what that does to my mind? The shit that runs through my head? My whole f*cking day is lost now. All I’ll be thinking about is that little nurse strapped to a pool table. Me holding a pool stick… a ball… holy f*ck…”

“Blaine, out of here,” Gaige said. “Go fantasize in a corner.”

“He’ll probably jerk off,” Brody said.

“Good thinking,” Blaine said. Blaine winked and gave a thumbs up.

“Gaige, give me a break here,” Brody said. “The guy beats on her, okay? She’s f*cking scared to death.”

“What did you do to him? To her?”

“Don’t worry about it right now,” Brody said. “I took care of business. She’s protected here and she has information. I hate to say this, but she knows what’ll happen if she doesn’t share with us. The point is that her… whatever… will be snooping around, I’m sure. I can get everything from Heather and we can plan a quick attack.”

“Christ,” Gaige said. “This is the last thing we need right now. We’re trying to figure out Eight Under, Coast Road…”

“I know,” Brody said. “I know. And I know Miller is taking heat from Chief Jerry over this drug thing.”

“It was a coffee cup filled with shit,” Gaige said. “That’s what Miller told me. Nobody else knows. Don’t say I told you, okay?”

“A coffee cup…”

“Yeah. It wasn’t just some * with smack on him. This was a deal. This was movement. This signals something bigger. Maybe. But Miller wants it squashed.”

Brody put a hand to Gaige’s shoulder. “Then let me squash it, brother. Let me take care of this. I may not sit at the table, Gaige, but f*ck, I have a patch for a reason.”

“I know, bro,” Gaige said. “Go to it then. I’ll talk to Miller when he gets back. Then we’ll have a meeting.”

Brody turned and walked away. As he walked down the hallway, his hands curled up into tight fists. He remembered he told Heather to take a shower. To clean up. To try and relax. There was no relaxing in this life. There was simply relief. And if she was in the shower, Brody knew nothing would stop him from joining her.

nine.

The two guys were quick to leave Heather alone. She tried to thank them for their part in saving her from Lyle, but they wouldn’t even look her in the eyes. She wasn’t exactly sure how any of this worked in the motorcycle club, but it was obvious Brody was in control of the two guys.

That’s sexy.

The fact that the guys actually respected Brody turned her on.

When the door shut, tears flooded Heather’s eyes. She lowered her head, burying her face into her hands and started to cry. After a few seconds she expected someone to grab her arms and tear her away from her emotions. Someone to shake her, yell at her, call her weak and pathetic. That’s what the normal routine had been for such a long time.

But that didn’t happen.

Heather was alone with her emotions and was able to cry until she felt no more tears. And then she stopped crying and, in a way, she stopped giving a shit. For a long time now she had been waiting for someone to give her an opening. To save her from Lyle, maybe even save her from herself. She felt free, but she knew she wasn’t that at all.

Brody wanted more from her. He didn’t bring her here because he was a nice guy and looking to keep good tabs with the man above or anything like that. He did so for strategy. Lyle was a bad guy and Heather had been with Lyle. All that was pretty damn obvious. The only question was how much would Heather share with Brody?

The thought made her shiver. She felt achy and dirty.

Heather went to her bags and collected fresh clothing. She then went to the bathroom and sought out the shower. When she turned the water on, it was soothing to have other sounds in the room other than her pounding thoughts. Right and wrong. Good and bad. The debate whether she had been just as crappy as Lyle. She had been helping him move drugs for how long now?

Too f*cking long, Heather.

Heather started to strip herself out of her nursing scrubs. She made a neat pile on the floor and reached up and unsnapped her bra. Sighing, Heather felt relief. It was nice to feel comfortable right now. She tossed her bra and, of course, it hooked on her finger and went right into the shower. The few seconds of rushing water on it made it soaked.
