Twisted Pieces (Back Down Devil MC #5)(9)

When Miller sat down, the table quieted back down. “This is what we have right now. A mess. Luckily, there’s nothing blowing up. But there are some things blowing up in our face. That being our good friend, Strokner.”

“We’ve got to cut ties with this guy,” Blaine said.

“We will,” Miller said. “Right now, we have to keep everyone close. That includes Strokner and Chief Jerry. I don’t like what’s happening out there. That judge purposely f*cked with us. He stalled so Jace would stay behind bars. I want to know why. This evidence of Jace and murder has yet to surface. The case will go up in smoke, but it doesn’t give me a good feeling.”

“What about Coast Road?” Jace asked. “What I saw?”

“We haven’t seen any of that shit,” Gaige said.

“No activity,” Griffin added. “But I wouldn’t doubt it.”

“I know what I saw,” Jace said.

“Nobody is doubting that,” Miller said. “And our friends from Eight Under are slowly rebuilding after we wiped a lot of them out. That prison thing, Jace, with Nicky and Paul, that was part of it.”

“So it’s business as usual around here,” Nate said. “Everyone wants us dead and we want to kill everyone.”

“Sounds about right,” Landon said.

“For now,” Miller said, “we have to tread a little light around town. There are eyes on us. We’ll get to the truth soon enough.”

“What if I say f*ck you to that, Miller?” Jace asked.

Miller turned his head. “What does that mean?”

“Are we going to let that judge get away with this?” Jace asked. “I mean, purposely f*cking around. There’s a reason. And if there’s not, then we make a point.”

“Christ,” Gaige said. “What are you saying?”

“You want to take him out?” Blaine asked.

“Why not?” Jace asked. “It’s the least we could do. It'll send some kind of message.”

“You can’t knock off a judge,” Miller said. “Don’t be stupid.”

“Fine. He have a wife? Kids?”

The entire conversation took a serious turn. Jace had been given plenty of time to think about things while sitting in prison. The judge story didn’t make sense. Either that or there was something that he wasn't being told.

Miller looked at Gaige and nodded.

“While you were inside, we kind of thought the same thing, so we started digging around. But then we got word that you were getting out.”

“What’s the story then?” Jace asked.

“He’s divorced,” Gaige said. “His old lady took off, left him with a kid. A ten year old boy."

“Good,” Jace said. “I’ll get the kid. I’ll send the message.”

Jace stood up.

“Wait a f*cking second,” Miller bellowed. “We’re going to think on this.”

“I have to do what I have to do,” Jace said.

“You’re not inside anymore,” Miller said. “Remember that.”

“Got it,” Jace said.

“Whoa, whoa,” Blaine said. He slowly stood. “Before we get down to business, we have things to do. We have to celebrate Jace’s freedom. And we have to help his poor cock. He resorted to jerking himself off, day after day, night after night. He didn’t even f*ck his own pillow…”

“Fuck his pillow?” Nate asked.

“Yeah,” Blaine said. “I figure if I ever go inside, that’s what I’m going to do.”

“What the hell would you put your head on then?” Landon asked.

“Simple. Flip the pillow over. Fresh side.”

Everyone at the table groaned. Blaine laughed and clamped a hand down on Jace’s shoulder.

“Blaine is right,” Miller said. “We’re not here, tonight, for this.”

“There’s bigger plans right now,” Blaine said with a big grin on his face.

Jace had half a nerve to object to anything Blaine had planned, but he knew what was waiting outside in the clubhouse. Women. Relievers. Strippers. Anything Jace wanted he would get tonight. That was for damn sure.

With a nod, Jace was the one who ended the meeting. They went to the door and Gaige stood there with his hand on the door handle.

He looked right at Jace. “Glad you’re back.”

“So I keep hearing,” Jace said.

“Look…”

“What the f*ck?” Blaine yelled. “There’s * out there!”

Gaige opened the door. He, Landon, Erik, and Shay all stood and let everyone else flood out into the clubhouse.

Jace looked at Shay and smiled. “Does Ava share?”

“What the f*ck does that mean?” Shay growled as he curled his lip.

“You getting in on the fun out there?” Jace asked.

“My fun is waiting,” Shay said as he grabbed Jace by the arm. “I have to say something to you quick. If I did anything to cause this…”

“Don’t say that shit,” Jace said. “We got what we wanted, Shay. You got what you needed. And I plan on doing the same.”

“That’s what scares me sometimes,” Shay said. “I almost got killed for what I needed. Our luck is going to run out one day.”
