Steel Temptation (Back Down Devil MC #6)(13)

“Okay,” Mia said. “I don’t know what you want from me.”

“Answers,” Nate growled. “And there’s only one way to get the truth.”

Nate felt Mia way too close to him.

She’s the enemy. Fuck her.

Nate looked up and saw Blaine pointing.

“Oh, f*ck,” Nate said. “Be ready, babe.”

“Ready…”

Miller dove off the table. He pushed by Erik and Jace, sending them flying back. Blaine walked alongside him, Griffin trying to keep up. The second Nate met eyes with Miller, it was on.

Fire, anger, everything Nate wanted the club to feel about the situation. But he also felt a little remorse that Mia was going to be on the opposite end of it all.

“They’re going to kill me,” she said.

Her voice cracked a little.

“Not unless you listen to me,” Nate said.

He couldn’t believe he was actually considering defending this woman. She didn’t deserve shit right now. But a beautiful woman with a confused face…

Nate stepped forward and put a fist out. “Miller…”

“No,” Miller growled. “I want that bitch strung up right now. She was trailing you for a reason. Coast Road was just riding by here, on purpose, to f*ck with us. They want a war? I’ll give them a f*cking massacre.”

Nate wiggled away from Mia and stood his ground. “You have to listen to me…”

Miller bumped into Nate. It was like two boulders colliding. Gritting his teeth, Nate backed down, out of respect for the patch.

“I’m working…”

He tried to say something to Miller, but it was no use.

Mia hurried to back up from the biker barreling at her. Nate watched with annoyed and helpless eyes. She wasn’t going to get away, and fighting would only make things worse.

Mia hit the railing behind her. She threw her hands out and gripped the railing.

Miller was stopping though. He grabbed her by the mouth and pushed, sending her up and over the railing.

“Christ!” Nate yelled.

He lunged forward and Blaine grabbed him. “Bro, easy…”

Nate threw an elbow and hit Blaine in the jaw. He flew back and grabbed his face.

“Fuck, Miller!” Nate yelled.

Mia let out a weak scream. She had a white knuckle grip on the railing. Miller had a hand on her leg, his other hand on her jaw. She was upside down, her auburn hair dangling.

“You’re going to f*cking spill everything,” Miller growled.

“Miller, I have her,” Nate said.

Miller looked back. He then stepped back and brought Mia back to her feet. Her hair was messy, her face red and flushed. Her eyes were wide, filled with tears.

“This isn’t a joke,” Miller said. “I’m going to ask once. You lie and you’re done.”

Mia nodded. “Okay.” Her eyes strained to look at Nate. He could only nod back to her.

“Were you trailing my guys?” Miller asked.

There were a few seconds of hesitation and then Mia said, “Yes.”

“Fuck,” Nate said.

“I knew it,” Blaine said. “She’s working for someone.”

“Are you working for Coast Road MC?” Miller asked.

“I don’t know what that means,” Mia said.

Miller pulled her close. They were nose to nose. Nate felt a ping of jealousy go through his body and he jumped forward, grabbing Miller’s shoulder. It was a risky move.

When Miller turned, Nate figured he was going to get hit.

But Miller just stared.

“I know,” Nate said. “But we can’t kill her right now. Or hurt her. Or really scare her. Right? She’ll hole up on us.”

Miller let out a growl. He took his hand from Mia’s face. Her eyes didn’t leave Nate’s. “I want a meeting right now. Everyone at the table. Full house.”

“You got it, boss,” Blaine said.

“Everyone, inside!” Gaige boomed and then whistled.

“I want prospects at the gates,” Miller said. “Except to watch the bitch.”

It made Nate cringe to hear Miller call Mia a bitch. Yet, Nate knew nothing of her.

“And you, Nate, are going to take her underground. Keep her there until we meet and decide how to take care of her.”

“You can’t kill me!” Mia cried out. “They’ll find my car. They’ll look for me.”

Miller looked at Mia again. “You think this is a f*cking game? I’ll have your car moved and burned before anyone gives a shit you’re missing. And by the time someone does give a shit, you’ll be nothing but a pile of bones in a hole.”

Mia looked down, defeated. Miller hovered over her. His hands were in tight fists. He wanted to lose his mind. Again, Mia was lucky she was a woman. And goddamn to whoever put her up to this.

“Come on,” Nate said. He moved by Miller and clamped a hand down on Mia’s wrist. “Fucking move right now.”

Nate pulled Mia close but not too close. Miller finally turned and charged away. He pointed and started yelling at two prospects to get the chains and the guns ready.

“I didn’t do…”

“Shut up,” Nate spat at Mia. “You don’t f*cking talk to Miller like that. Or any one of us like that. Christ. Miller is the goddamn President.”
