Steal the Day (Thieves #2)(81)

Daniel looked surprised and slightly scared. It made me very curious about what a female vampire was like. “Dude, there are exactly two female vampires in the entire world, and you’re telling me you slept with one of them?”

“I did indeed and I’ll be honest, I don’t get it. It hurt, and the sex wasn’t that great. You vamps are supposed to be sex on a stick, but it was highly forgettable with the exception of how f*cking much it hurt. I know Zoey tells you it’s good, but she’s faking it.”

Daniel’s eyebrows shot up in one of those deeply offended masculine looks. I grinned at him to let him know Dev was crazy, but I wasn’t going to defend his reputation. He could manage that all on his own. “Faking it? We’ll see about that. Let’s get this over with. Zoey’s right. We should go to the big bed. I don’t want to have to catch you when you fall.”

Dev shrugged out of his shirt as he entered the largest of the bedrooms. “Fine, but you’re going to be disappointed. It doesn’t work on me.”

“We’ll see about that.” Daniel pulled his T-shirt over his head, and I was surrounded by really lovely chests. Dev was taller than Daniel, and his body was all lean muscle. Daniel was more solidly built, with big biceps and strong shoulders. I kind of sighed as I looked at the two of them. They were so different, but each so hot in their own way.

It made me wonder what it would be like to be in between those hard bodies. I wasn’t a tiny, thin thing, but Danny and Dev made me feel petite. Ever since Dev and Danny made their little bargain, I couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like if our fake ménage was true.

Dev started toward the big bed. “You, too, Zoey. If we’re bare-chested you should be, too. I don’t want you to ruin that blouse. It’s Mark Jacobs, from the spring collection. I can’t replace it. The color complements your eyes.”

“It’s only fair.” Daniel watched me, his eyes narrowing. He could tell I was getting very interested in the proceedings in more than an amused way. Daniel’s senses didn’t lie. He could hear my heartbeat, and it was anything but steady.

I unbuttoned my shirt. There was a practical reason for bare skin. Skin is a hell of a lot easier to get blood off of than fabric. I tried to get the dirty thoughts out of my head but, god, it was hard. Hard. My mind just kept going there.

“And the bra.” Dev held out his hand. “I need a distraction.”

“Seriously?” Being half naked was not going to make this easier. I looked back to Danny. He would probably be deeply uncomfortable.

He was standing back, his eyes on me.

“It’s nothing he hasn’t seen before,” Dev said reasonably. “If you want me to do this, give me something to distract me from the fact that your husband is about to sink his fangs into me.”

“Danny?”

Finally his lips turned up. “He’s right. It’s nothing I haven’t seen before. I’ll take what I can. And we could both use a distraction. Give up the bra.”

I unclasped my bra and tossed it to Dev. Cool air hit my skin, making my nipples pucker. The fact that their eyes were focused on me didn’t help it at all. Daniel’s fangs came out. Dev sighed. It was enough to make a girl feel confident.

I realized beyond a shadow of a doubt why the boys wanted me here. Dev might not understand it, but Daniel knew this process was deeply sexual. If I was there, the boys could concentrate on what they loved—female flesh. It would make everything easier—until the feeding was over and we all had to go back to our lonely rooms because Dev had put in the no-sex rule. I was probably going to eat an enormous amount of ice cream in an attempt to forget how much I wanted sex.

And I was definitely going to fantasize about what could have happened.

In the end, I knew Dev was right. I couldn’t hurt Danny that way. I didn’t want to. I wanted something else entirely, but I wasn’t going to get it. I had to be satisfied that my men were willing to not kill each other. Just getting them in the same room, working together, was a miracle.

An awkward moment passed and then another. Silence hung in the air and I wasn’t sure any of us was ready for what we were about to do. Working with Daniel was one thing, but this was intimate and suddenly I realized just how serious our situation was. We were going into something dangerous. We might not get out. Like it or not, the men in this room had to rely on each other. We were all we had.

Daniel cleared his throat and kicked off his shoes. I couldn’t help but notice he’d left his boots and sneakers behind. He was wearing shiny Italian loafers, the leather rich and expensive looking. He hadn’t bought those himself. Dev’s influence was already showing up in Daniel’s clothes. “We should get this done. I don’t want to take up too much time.”

Dev nodded, looking back toward me. He slipped out of his loafers, too, and climbed on that decadent-looking bed. He held his hand out to help me up. “Come on, Zoey. This will be easier if you’re here.”

Daniel gave me a tight smile that let me know he agreed and I followed Dev. The curtains were drawn though it was full dark. The room was huge, but now it felt intimate and close. The whole world felt like it had narrowed down to the three of us.

Dev’s big hands immediately went around my waist, cupping my hips. The rest of the room was chilled, but his hands were hot and restless on my skin. “Hold on to me, Zoey.”
