Spurs 'n Surrender (Operation Cowboy Book 2)(61)
“Wait till it’s your turn to walk down the aisle. You’ll see that the honeymoon’s the best part of the whole deal,” Garrett said.
“Fall can’t come soon enough. I’m up to my ears in weddin’ magazines.” Boyd’s happy face was dark with a tan. He’d been working his butt off with Garrett at all hours on a brand-new wind power venture. The idea had been in the planning stages for almost a year, and it was just now up and running.
The new energy plant was bringing in new jobs, and Wydell was already getting calls to build more houses—of all sizes, which he was happy about.
“Let’s move along,” Anya suggested, eager to set eyes on her hunk of a husband. Earlier she’d almost jumped him and ripped off his uniform, and he’d looked at her as if he’d let her. Then she’d found some control and let him leave the house.
“Pick me up, Mommy.” Chesney’s little legs were sturdy but probably about to give out after running up and down the street collecting candy from the parade.
Anya bent and scooped her up, mindful of the bump of child number two due in four short months.
“Can’t believe how much this town as grown.” Mrs. Fletcher’s voice carried back at them. She held onto the arm of the preacher, and he settled her in a folding chair that had been set up in front of the war memorial.
As they all laid eyes on the gleaming stone bearing Matt’s name, Danica sniffled. Twelve men, all in various uniforms of the US military stood in a semi-circle in front of the monument.
Anya stared at her husband’s handsome face, and Chesney waved wildly to get his attention. Then he turned that bright smile on them.
Lawdy, just when she thought she couldn’t get any happier.
