Mercy (Sin City Outlaws #2)(62)
I can’t help but smirk. Grabbing her by the hips I pull her to me, and brush the hair from her face.
“I know you can’t marry me, because in doing so you’d have to give up your job. I can’t ask you to do that.” She opens her mouth to defend herself and I cup it to shut her up. “I know the department won’t let a deputy marry a felon. I looked this shit up, sweetheart, but that doesn’t mean I’m not taking your ass off the market right now.” I lower my hand from her mouth to her swollen belly. “We made a family together, and I want to not only be a father but the man you deserve. That means stepping up and crushing my fears of commitment and knowing I can do that with you it doesn’t seem so scary anymore.”
I grab the ring and untangle it from the beads that have a sentimental value to us. “I won’t be easy to love, nothing about me is soft or gentle. But with this ring, I promise to be that man, and always be here. That when the time comes, I will marry you traditionally in some big ass church. In the meantime, I’m going to piss you off and spoil you every day. I’m going to build you a big house so we can fill it with the kids we’re going to make.” I tangle my fingers in her hair and pull her hair. “I’m going to make love to you, and f*ck you as much as I possibly can and I promise to never hold back.” My eyes focus on hers, her mouth parted as she takes me in. “I promise to give you everything I am, Rookie.” Releasing her hair I lower my head to hers, and kiss her forehead.
My shoulders feel lighter expelling all my feelings for her. I only recited the shit ten times to Felix and the guys. They only laughed in my face a few times. I can’t wait for them to go through this shit. “Will you let me do those things? Will you let me take care of you?”
Slowly she leans her head back and pins me with watery eyes. My heart beats with every second that she doesn’t respond, nervous she’s going to laugh at my weak proposal. Shit, I should have waited until I could actually marry her.
“Yes. Yes, I want all of that. I want you,” she whispers, and I exhale the breath I was holding. “You get me, you get everything about me and I love you so much I couldn’t imagine being with anyone else.” A single tear slips from the corner of her eye, and I can’t help but soak it up with the pad of my thumb.
“We’ll have a ceremony wherever you want, and you can get dressed up. Just like a real wedding but without the legal crap. I wish I could do more, but…”
“No, this is perfect.” She slides the three carat, princess cut ring onto her finger. It fits, thank God. I had to put one of my skull rings on her finger in the middle of the night and try and describe to the jeweler where her finger came to within mine. I’ve planned heists that weren’t that complicated.
“I love it.”
I smile like a f*cking fool.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah!” She nods her head eagerly. “And the rosary,” she laughs, threading them through her fingers.
“I thought with the story behind them, it would be…I don’t know, sweet or something.” I shrug. “I thought about proposing at a restaurant or something fancy, but this is where we became us…where all our secrets started, so I thought it would be perfect.”
She cups my cheek, her ring sparkling. “It was perfect.” That’s a damn relief.
Stepping up behind her I dig my fingers into her hips. “God, I f*cking love you. How can someone like me, get so lucky to have someone like you?”
She turns in my hold. “I could say the same about you.”
I kiss her, hard. Nearly knocking her off her feet and she giggles.
“Dinner is done,” she whispers and points at my spot at the end of the table. Turning I see a plate of steaming food. I had plans to f*ck her after I proposed to her, but seeing she’s been in here cooking I’m not about to let it go to waste.
“Alright, but after we eat, I’m f*cking you on that table.” My brows raise as I head for the seat.
She smiles, practically f*cking glowing as she bats her lashes at me.
This, I f*cking love this. The idea of a domestic life scared the shit out of me before, but knowing I can be an outlaw by day, and her man and a daddy by night. It’s the best of both worlds.
A lot of people don’t know how Jillian and I can be together and live in opposite worlds. When Jillian got her job back she and I came to an agreement…she doesn’t bring work home, and I don’t bring club business home. We keep them separate.
However, I know the little shit is trying to catch me. It’s who she is, I don’t know what she would do if she actually did catch me though. Probably laugh in my face and say I told you so, right before I got released by their new Lieutenant. It doesn’t matter though, because she’ll never catch me.
The chase is fun though, and it makes the sex that much f*cking hotter.
Sitting across from me she stabs a piece of asparagus with her fork, smiling at me while she chews. I can’t help but smile back while I bite into a bread roll.
“How was work? You help catch the f*ckers you were after?” I ask.
Her cheeks flush, as she pushes food around in her mouth.
“Not yet, but we will.”
I chuckle silently, chewing hard.
