Love in Country (De La Fuente Family #4)(4)

Sarah pinches my ass. “You’re a smug bastard.” She chuckles.

“I made you come without removing your clothes, of course I’m smug.” I laugh and rotate my hips against her. “Pinching the goods is only going to get you into trouble.”

“I’d get in trouble every day as long as you’re with me,” she says with a wry smile on her lips. Her hand lifts and caresses my face, a finger traces along my mouth.

Leaning close, I place a soft kiss to her lips and roll onto my back. I intertwine our fingers together and just lay staring up at the ceiling wishing our situation was different than what it is.

I’ve stayed away from Sarah for months because I didn’t want to cause her more distress and it hurt. I missed talking to her when she’d be at my family’s farm. I missed seeing her smile and the blush that was mine alone. I just missed her, which was why I was so happy when she messaged saying she missed me and wanted to see me.

I should feel guilty being with her like this, but I don’t because I love her. I love her so much that it hurts when I imagine her back at her house…with him.

“You need to stop thinking.” Sarah rolls onto her side and letting go of my hand, snuggles into my arms. She brings her leg between mine and sighs. “This feels so good.”

“It feels like heaven,” I admit, and ask, “How long can you stay?”

She lifts her head. “Greg’s out of town for a few days.”

“That’s music to my ears…Please stay for dinner.”

She buries her face into my chest. “Your family knows I’m married, Aiden. It will be uncomfortable for me.”

“I hate that you go home to him when you should be with me. It makes me crazy imagining him…touching you.”

Seconds tick by as Sarah crawls on top of me, her legs straddle across my hips and her hands cup my face. Tears hover on her lashes, which she blinks away. “My marriage isn’t what you think.” She closes her eyes. “We’ve never had sex, Aiden. Not once. It’s a marriage of convenience. You’re the only one I’ve been this close to in seven years. I can’t carry on letting you think that I’ve ever gone from talking to you, kissing you, to someone else.”

I cup her face and flip her over to her back. “I don’t understand, and I guess you had your reasons, but that makes me damn happy.” I bury my face into her neck and breathe, relief running through me. “Thank you for telling me.”

“I trust you, Aiden…more than I’ve ever trusted anyone. I’m sorry I can’t tell you everything. The rest is Greg’s story to tell.” Her fingers slide through my hair as she massages my scalp. “I can’t betray his trust.”

I kiss her neck. “Shush.” I kiss her lips. “It’s okay. You’ve told me enough.”

Cradling her against my body, I caress down her back, my fingers threading through her long hair as she falls asleep in my arms.

My heart feels so full of her right now that I know it’s going to hurt when she wakes and I have to let her go.

I’m curious about their arrangement, but it fills me with joy to be the only man she wants and I hope eventually that she’ll be able to walk away from him and into my arms, which will always be open to her.

Closing my eyes, sleep claims me.

SARAH

“My brother has been walking around with a huge grin on his face since yesterday,” Emelia states. “What have you done to him?” She waits for my answer and I feel a blush slowly creep up my face.

“Thought so.” Emelia chuckles. “I love it when I’m right.” Sobering, she tilts her head to the side and a frown deepens on her brow as she says, “I honestly don’t know what to think about you two. I mean you’re the only woman that I’ve ever seen him screwed up about, but you’re not really free to be with him.”

“I know.” I swallow back my anguish because I want nothing more than to be with Aiden. It hurts that I can’t be and all because of the damn contract I signed.

“I love your brother, Emelia,” I whisper and quickly blink back tears. “He knows my situation and that’s what matters. I just wish my life was so much simpler.” I shrug. “It isn’t right now but as long as Aiden knows my feelings for him are genuine, then we both can get on with our lives and hope that one day it’s a shared one.”

Emelia looks thoughtful and smiles wryly. “Well, me more than anyone should know that everything can work out in the end if you want something badly enough.” Her whole face lights up when her husband, Dante, comes up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist.

Aiden appears and steps close to me, the back of his hand lightly brushing against mine. The minute he touches me, I turn my head and meet his heated gaze. He leans in and whispers, “What I wouldn’t give to kiss you right now,” before turning his attention to the couple across from us.

My pulse quickens and I try to control my reaction as Aiden asks the couple, “How long are you both staying?”

I toss my work gloves into the back of my car and busy myself with arranging my gear.

“A few days,” Dante answers, and after some small talk between the brothers, he finally says, “I’m going to take my wife inside and leave you be. It was nice seeing you again, Sarah.”
