Hitched (Hitched #1)(27)

As Vi pulls out of the parking lot, my phone buzzes again.

I'm imagining the way your * tastes on my tongue as I eat you until you come on my face. I want you to scream for me, Kacie.

I giggle. Yes, giggle. And reply, as Vi rolls her eyes.

Mmm can't wait. I suppose you'll want me to suck on your cock again as well. I'll try to suck deeper this time, taking you all the way into my throat until you explode in my mouth.

"I take it things are going well with the doctor?" Vi asks, and I can tell this is going to be near identical to my conversation with Tate.

To avoid that, I ask about Chad. "Is he moving in?"

"I gave him a drawer and space for his toothbrush. We'll see how it goes from there."

"Does he mind what you do for a living?" I've always wondered how she balances a personal relationship while also acting as Dom for men who get off on being her submissive.

"No. He knows that for me it's not sexual. That's enough for him, I think." She almost sounds disappointed, which doesn't really make any sense. She loves her work, so I would think she'd be happy to find someone who's comfortable with it.

"Anything else going on?" I ask.

"Nothing really. Just thinking about my future and trying to make some decisions about what I really want out of my life." The melancholy in her voice deepens, and I know something more is going on.

"That's what you call 'nothing’? What gives, Vi? Are you unhappy?"

She shakes her head. "Not the way I was when I was a bank manager. That job nearly killed my soul. I guess I'm just wondering if this is it? If this is everything for me, or if there's something more that I'm not seeing?"

"I suppose we all wonder that," I say. Though it's been a long time since I've done serious soul searching about my path in life. I've known what I want for a long time, and I've gone after it with pit bull focus and determination. Same with Tate. We never questioned it. We just knew.

But meeting Sebastian has opened a door in me I don't want to walk through. I know there are questions behind that door that won't be so clear cut and easy to answer, and I'm not ready for that much introspection.

"What are you going to do?" I ask.

She shrugs. "Probably nothing. You know how I get. It'll pass after a while. I have a great life. I don't want to upset the apple cart just because I'm having a few off days."

"If you need anything… " I let my voice trail off, knowing she knows I'm here for her.

She reaches over and squeezes my hand. "I know. Thank you. You and Tate are my family. I'd be lost without you."

When we get to my house, she doesn't come in. "I have a client in a few hours and a date with Chad later. But have fun tonight."

"Thanks for coming with me," I hold the door to her car as I stand on the sidewalk. "It was fun hanging with you a bit."

She smiles. "We should go skydiving sometime. That owner is hot."

"I'll pass, thanks. Heights and me aren't BFFs. Plus, we're both dating people right now."

She laughs. "That doesn't mean we can't look—and admire!"

I close the door and roll my eyes at her as she speeds away.

When I walk into the house, there's a new bouquet of roses on my desk with a note from Sebastian.

I miss how you feel. See you soon.

The card smells like him. A spicy, woody scent with hints of cardamom and cinnamon. I take the card up to my room, smiling all the way, as I dress for my date with the sexiest man alive.

Chapter 19

Getting to Know You

He knows me well. The lingerie fits perfectly, and I feel very sexy as I slip into the limousine he hired to pick me up.

The driver offers me champagne, which I accept, and I sip it as he drives me to Sebastian's house. I realize once again I'll need a ride from him to get home tomorrow, but I don't mind a bit.

I've got my overnight bag, and as I step out of the limo, I worry I'll be overdressed for what he has planned. I'm wearing one of my more formal gowns, a long black dress with rhinestones on my breasts and at the hem that twinkle like diamond stars.

My hair is pulled into an up-do, and my makeup is more dramatic than usual.

But when Sebastian comes out of the house, he's dressed in a tux, and I release the breath I've been holding, happy that we coordinated so well tonight.

I still have no idea what he's planning, but I'm on fire with anticipation.

He takes my bag from me, slips the driver some money, and leads me through the front walkway of glowing orbs and into his house.

I gasp.

The entire living room and up the stairway: everything is covered in flickering candles. It's stunning. Add to that, white Christmas lights have been strategically placed to give the entire house a fairytale vibe. On a table in the living room lay a spread of desserts, fruits, champagne and wine, and finger foods that make my mouth water. It's enough food for a party, but we are the only ones in attendance.

The fire is burning bright in the stone fireplace, and the light from the flames dance over the walls. In front of the fire is an extra thick fur rug I didn't see before, piled with large pillows and a few soft blankets. There's another smaller table there with two glasses of champagne and a bowl of fresh strawberries and cream.
