Everyone nodded their heads in agreement. A few more of the guys stopped to ask him how Green and Curtis were doing, offering more help if needed. Ruxs graciously thanked them, inching out the door at the same time so he could get home. He needed to be with the man he loved. Needed to reassure Green he was indeed okay and unharmed.

The parking lot was almost empty except for the graveyard shift. Right before Ruxs got to Green’s truck, which he’d driven today, Ro jogged up to him. “Hey Ruxs, I didn’t get a chance to tell you earlier.”

“Hey, what’s up Ro?”

“Um. I don’t know if you wanted to know or not and since I didn’t want to bother Green.” Ro stumbled looking uneasy.

“It’s cool, Ronowski. Spit it out.”

“Um. Jacob posted bond yesterday. I had him tailed for a little while. First he went to your mom’s house. He used a key. It looked like he only grabbed some clothes, according to the officer. Then he, um.” Ro paused.

“He what?”

“He went to visit your mom. He stayed the whole half an hour she’s allowed.”

Ruxs ran his hand through his short hair. The last thing he wanted was Jacob trying to talk his mom out of doing her sentence in rehab, but he wasn’t able to see her. Green already had the restraining order in place. “Shit.”

“Don’t worry about it, bro. Your mom will be transported to her facility in a couple days and Jacob’s on borrowed time, dude. He made bail, but I’m sure he’ll have to serve some time, if only for violating his probation. It’s all good. I just wanted to let you know.”

“Thanks Ro.”

“No problem.”

Ruxs floored it out of the parking lot, needing Green more than ever right now. Had his mom and Jacob really been in love? It made Ruxs’ stomach turn just thinking about it.

Green sat in the recliner mindlessly watching the cooking channel when he heard the locks to his front door. He smiled broadly. Bout fuckin’ time.

He saw Ruxs drop his large duffle bag by the door and toss his keys on the side table. Green stood there waiting for him to come farther inside. Ruxs looked hungrily at him as he quickly cleared the floor between them and wrapped his arms around him. “Told you I’d be home,” he said quietly, placing the tenderest kiss on his mouth.

“I never doubted it,” Green said, kissing him back.

Ruxs chuckled into his mouth. “Liar.”

“That’s the last time you go into the field without me.”

“Damn right it is.” Ruxs slanted his mouth over his and slid his tongue in deep, savoring him thoroughly as if Ruxs had forgotten what he tasted like. Green was breathless when Ruxs finally released his mouth. “Let’s go upstairs.”

Green looked towards the kitchen at the plate of food he’d set aside for his partner. “Let me put that in fridge.”

“Thanks for that. But I’m not really hungry. I just want to get in bed and lie beside you.” Ruxs grabbed a bottle of water out of the refrigerator, waiting for Green to finish.

“How’d your home visits go today?”

“Fast. The judge signed the order this morning making it final, so the social worker breezed in, I guess just to make sure I didn’t have a meth lab set up anywhere, then left. Said she they usually scheduled another visit in six months but Curtis will be of age by then, so.” Green shrugged. “Both visits took less than fifteen minutes. Which was fine by me and Curtis.”

“So what’d you guys do the rest of the time? Everything cool?” Ruxs asked, following Green’s sexy ass up the stairs.

“Yeah.” Green smiled back at him. “Thanks to you.”

“Little ole’ me.” Ruxs smiled innocently. “I didn’t do anything.”

Green spun and pinned Ruxs to the wall. “You did everything. Thank you, for whatever you said to him this morning. He came upstairs. We talked and talked until he laid everything out there, and I laid all my crap out there. I think we’re good.”

“Good.” Ruxs held him tight. “I can’t stand to see you two upset at each other.”

Green looked into those gorgeous eyes. He realized that he wanted everything with this man. His whole life, he wanted Ruxs there with him through it all. “Come on. I want to peel you out of this uniform. I’ve fantasized about that for years. I love how fuckin’ hot you look in your task force gear.”

Ruxs gave Green that crooked shit-eating grin of his. “Hmm. I wish I would’ve known that before. I would’ve worn this every fuckin’ day.”
