Grounded By Love (The Giant Wars #2)(65)

"One more and only one more." He murmured against her hair.

"Are they not the king and queen? And if they are the king and queen, does that make you..."

"A prince?" He finished for her. "Yes, it would end up making me the prince of the rock giant kingdom.” He paused for a bit. “Does it matter?"

"No, I was only curious." But it did matter. He was a part of the family who had begun this war. If the war lasted, until he was king, would he put an end to it?

"Then, yes, it makes me a prince."

"No wonder I’ve been getting so many glares. No one must be happy with the fact their prince is carting around a human woman."

He hugged her against him a little tighter. "I will keep you safe. Do not fret about what others think of you."

She didn't respond, since she didn't want to accidently insult him, but she had to wonder how well he could keep her safe. He was a prince, but that only meant other people were bound to despise her even more for being with him. It only put them in the spotlight more than if he’d been a commander.

Trying to distract herself she rubbed her hand over his stomach and torso, searching out the wound she helped heal. As she lightly brushed over his side, he gave a huff of a laugh and pulled away her hand.

"What are you up to, other than keeping me awake?" Kaeldar asked, pulling her close yet again.

"Just checking up on your wound. With all that has been going on, I forgot about it, to be honest." She looked up at him from where her head was laying on his shoulder.

"Your amazing talent for healing has saved me twice. The wound will now just be one of my many scars to help remind me to be better on the battefield."

"Or maybe to remind you not to go out onto the battlefield in the first place." Claira returned.

"Sadly, that will not be a choice I can make for myself. How can my people fight a war when their leaders won't even get their hands dirty?"

"Maybe the war shouldn't be fought then. Besides you aren’t even the leader of your people yet.”

"I believe in this war, just like the rest of my people."

She swallowed hard, of course he would. Just because she was sleeping with him didn't make him any less of a rock giant. Could she be with a man who was fine with war? Then again would it be any different if she was with a human soldier? It was a question she had yet to resolve.

"Of course, you do." She stated simply. There was a lot between them they would have to face at some point soon. Had she truly thought they might actually have some sort of chance together? The obstacles they faced might be way too enormous.

His hand came up and caressed the side of her face. "Just because I believe in fighting this war, doesn't mean I want to be fighting with you or that I might dislike you because you’re human. I’m only trying to keep my people safe.”

She shrugged. "I never had the feeling you hated me." She decided not to voice her concerns about the future though. She didn't want to hear any negative answers he might give her. She feared he might not feel much for her out of the covers.

"Good." He didn’t seem to pick up any of the uncertainty within her voice or onto the worry.

Within minutes, she heard him softly snoring away. Clearly, he had no troubles or he was just better at putting them aside for now.

She felt a little bitter he wasn't more concerned about the things going on around them, because she felt like her hair might fall out with her stress level.

As she started to fall asleep, she couldn't believe she found out he was a prince. Who would’ve ever guessed she would be held in the arms of royalty? She was considered no one in the human world.

She was glad she found him, since he had given her several new views, like how sweet a prince could treat someone like her and how a rock giant could be so kind to a human.

He definitely was unique among his people, which gave her hope that other rock giants could be won over. She fell asleep with a smile on her face, as she drifted off to those pleasant thoughts.

Chapter 18

"Why is she here? What does he think he’s doing by bringing a human female among us?" Kaeldar’s mother rose her voice, as she spoke.

A hand squeezed her shoulder. "Don’t worry about this human female. There is nothing she has that a giant female doesn't posses."

"What if this doesn't pass?" She worried her lip. "I don't want my son interacting with this human, and I don't want him thinking he can have her by his side. It’s one thing to entertain himself on the border, but he has an image to uphold here at the castle. I thought we taught him better."

The rock giant king, Kaeldar's father, leaned in to swear to his wife. "This will definitely pass. She is something he picked up during his travels, while he was in a battle. Do not fret, my dear, I will make sure it passes, even if I have to force it on him."

"How will you do that?"

He smiled evilly. "I will send some giant females up to him, the best females I can find, ones who know how to entice a male. They have techinques that can bring a man to his knees." His eyes grew distant.

His queen’s eyes flashed, but she tempered it down, before he could see it. "They better be special or you may never tempt him. He must think the human female exotic, so we must have irrististable giant females."
