Grounded By Love (The Giant Wars #2)(46)
The next morning was hard for Claira. She didn't want to rise, even though she knew she should. She kept her eyelids closed, trying to re-enter the pleasant dreams she’d been having, but the insistent sounds of the camp penetrated the fur tent.
Eventually, she gave up with a sigh and stretched the sleep from her muscles. She winced. The area between her legs was a little sore. Kaeldar had been right about only having one round. Thank goodness he had the sense to tell her she should wait. Last night she’d been riding a pleasure high and just wanted some more.
She put a hand under the fur covers to touch herself down there and tried to rub the soreness away, but sadly that didn't seem to work. She would just have to deal with it, until it faded.
Kaeldar had made sure her pleasure came first last night. There were going to be some daydreams in her future. He was a god, in more ways than one.
She could feel herself growing attached to him, and she feared what that might mean. She might lose her heart to a rock giant who couldn’t return her feelings. She was, after all, a human, and he was a rock giant. They couldn’t get any more opposite than that.
There was probably no way there could ever be anything between them. Ever. At least, it was extremely doubtful. She might be in over her head. The only thing she could see at the end of this road was a possible heartache.
Rolling over onto her back she gazed over at Kaeldar, who was still sleeping, if his even breathing was any indication.
He was amazingly handsome to her. The fur cover was lying across his waist, leaving his chest exposed to her eager gaze. Running a hand over his chest she felt how nicely formed and solid it was. It thrilled her a little. She had no idea why, but it did.
She was falling for a warrior. A type she never thought she would fall for. Surely, a more studious man would suit her better, but here she was gazing over at the rock giant warrior longingly.
Chapter 15
Kaeldar woke to smooth hands roaming up and down his torso. Her hands played with the black hairs on his chest, which then led down to the apex of his thighs.
Last night had been such a great surprise to him. Claira proved to have a curiosity and stamina he wouldn't have thought she possessed, but he was pleased to have been proven wrong. That night would be one he would never forget.
He rolled over onto his side “I should be going. My men are going to wonder where I’ve disappeared.”
He wanted to drag her into him, to feel her soft skin against his, to bury his face in her breasts and stay there all day, but they needed some distance.
“Surely, they can wait for a few more minutes.” Claira smiled over at him, while wiggling her eyebrows.
It broke him in two, because he wanted nothing more than to stay next to her all day, and that was the problem. Last night had been about passion, and he was going to keep it that way. It was all for her safety. They could be intimate, as long as he left emotions outside of the furs.
What the men saw here could get back to his father’s ears, and he wanted to prevent any such worry. His father could lash out towards Claira, if he thought she was a threat.
“How are you doing this morning?” Kaeldar asked her, while gazing down into her sea green eyes. A mistake. He was getting drawn into those depths, so he pushed himself up and left the furs.
She shrugged. “A little sore down there.” She blushed and continued, “But it doesn't bother me all that much.”
“Are you sure you’re alright?” He was concerned he might’ve been too rough with her the night before. As far as he knew, humans and giants had never mixed.
“Yes.” Claira rushed to reassure him.
He’d been unsure whether or not they’d be able to enjoy the furs together, and now he was surprised to find out how much they could do together in the furs.
Kaeldar was glad she was doing fine, because after entering her, he’d lost all of his thoughts of being gentle. She had been so warm and wet for him, and he had felt his self-restraint slip away.
His eyes roamed over her face, those deep green pools were so easy for a man to get lost in.
“Wouldn’t you like to join me, just for a little while?” She patted the area next to her on the furs.
“I wish we could continue, but we should be getting some food.” He had to get away from her before he whisked her into his arms and entered her again.
Claira nodded up at him, and then started to get up out of the furs.
“There is no need for you to get up and come with me. You should get some more rest.” He told her. “We will be riding out again today, and I don't want you to be too sensitive.”
Claira bobbed her head, a smile in her eyes, but he didn’t return it.
As Kaeldar got dressed, he wished he could just stop and rejoin her in the furs, but they needed some distance. Kaeldar made his way out of the tent and instantly noticed the looks he was getting from the rock giants around him. They must’ve heard what happened last night. It wasn’t like they were trying to be quiet.
The news of what happened in his tent would only further in protecting Claira from the men. It would now be clear she was his and his alone. He didn't mind if everyone knew she was his. He would protect her in any way he had to, to keep her safe.
Yet his father could hear about it, so he had to make it look like he was just using her body. He had to stay aloof. Balanced distance was the key.
