Empty Secrets (Back Down Devil MC #5.5)(13)
“How’d you sleep, Jace? Alone? Thinking of the woman I f*cked?”
“You didn’t f*ck her,” Jace said.
“Want to smell my dick and find out? Better yet… smell my breath…”
Jace pushed forward and Miller was right there to keep the fight from happening. “Sounds good, guys. Jace, f*ck off for now. If you’re hungry, there’s eggs, bacon, and * out there.”
Gaige, Nate, and Jace left the room.
Miller kicked at Gaige’s chair and then pointed. “Sit. Talk.”
Jett sat and drank some coffee. Hot, bitter, perfect. “About?”
Miller smiled. “You know who made this table, Jett?”
“No f*cking clue. Some guy in a foreign country looking for dinner?”
“Probably. But I mean… the size. The people. Does it make sense?”
“Why does it matter to me?”
Miller nodded. “I wish there was more room. For guys like you. Just because you’re on the outside of this room and don’t get to hear the gavel doesn’t mean I don’t value your opinions.”
“Lucky for you,” Jett said, “the walls aren’t that thick. I can hear the gavel.”
Now Miller laughed. “Fair enough then. I’ll cut to the root. Who the f*ck is the woman in your bed?”
“Lena.”
“Why was she covered in blood?”
Jett was instantly uncomfortable. He moved in his seat and said, “That’s the part I’m going to figure out next.”
“So you brought her here covered in blood and then… f*cked her?”
“She was passed out on my ride. Cops were on their way thanks to Blaine, so I had to make a split second decision.”
“Dropping her on the ground wasn’t one?”
“It was. But I wanted to know… who she was. Why she was on my ride.”
“You think it was a message?”
“Maybe. Thought at first she was piss drunk. So I got her off my ride and I saw the blood.”
“Not hers though?”
“Not at all. I took the shirt off and checked her body.”
“So I’ve heard.”
“It’s not like that, Miller,” Jett said. “I’m not Blaine. She woke up. She was disoriented. I told her who I was. She seemed like she was getting it all together. Then she started up and I wasn’t going to stop it.”
“I don’t blame you,” Miller said.
“So I f*cked her. Then I cleaned myself up and she was back asleep. I was coming out of the room to grab a bite, some coffee, and then go wake her ass up and find out what the f*ck is going on.”
“And when you find out… I mean, what’s the deal?”
“Depends. I’m always on the side of caution.”
“You mean paranoia.”
“Yeah.”
Miller leaned forward. “Christ, Jett, you can’t tie your life together like that. Not every bad thing is somehow connected. A chick got into a fight or something and was left on your ride. Or maybe her old man smacked her around a little. I mean, what does it have to do with us?”
Jett could pull twenty reasons out of his ass, but staring into Miller’s strong and defiant eyes, he knew the President of Back Down Devil MC was right. The club didn’t need to get into the middle of anything else right now. There was enough going on with the day to day operations of the MC and now the brewing war with whoever f*cking bombed the compound and tried to take out Erik.
“Yeah, I got it,” Jett said. “Look, I’ll talk to her. Get her out of here. No heat on us.”
“There’s always heat on us,” Miller said. “I just want her the f*ck gone. Bloody shirt, sweet * and all. Okay?”
Jett stood up. He nodded. “Yeah.”
“Hey,” Miller said. He lifted his coffee mug. “I’m glad you scored yourself something fun though. I can tell by the look on your face it was good *. You’ve been needing that for sometime now, Jett. Now get her the f*ck out of here.”
Jett walked to the end of the table and then stopped. “Miller. If she’s getting smacked around…”
“Yeah?”
“What if I can’t just toss her aside… put her right back into harm’s way…”
“There’s harm everywhere right now,” Miller said. “We can make a phone call or two and get her some help.”
“If the guy is connected…”
“Are you in love with her, Jett?”
“What? No. I f*cking said two words to her.”
“Good,” Miller said. “Then this shouldn’t be this hard.”
That was the final word in the conversation.
Jett left the room and went to the bar. He got a plate of food, a refill on his coffee, and he set his sights back on the damn room. Everything Miller had said was completely right and true. Lena wasn’t his f*cking problem. She wasn’t a Back Down Devil MC problem either. She was some chick that was drunk, or beat up, or whatever.
When he got to the door, it opened and Blaine stood there.
“What the f*ck are you doing?” Jett asked.
“Checking on sleeping beauty,” he said. “She wake up at all?”
