Distraction (Club Destiny #8)(58)
“So, I’m going out on a limb here and trusting what Luke told me,” Trent added. “If you want the job, it’s yours. I’ll get you the contract details so you can look it over. If the money’s an issue, let me know. I think it’s fair, but if you feel differently, I expect you to speak up.”
Straight and to the point, that’s obviously how Trent rolled.
“I’m interested,” Dylan told him, setting his coffee mug down. “Of course, I’ll have to review the contract. And I’ll head out to Vegas to check out Devil’s Playground to see what I’m in for.”
“Perfect. I’ll get you a suite at Carnality. It’s the hottest fucking place out there right now. Max Adorite bought the flagging hotel/casino, changed the name, and has revamped it into one of the nicest places on the strip. Don’t let the name fool you.”
Interesting name, Dylan had to admit.
“I can get my private jet to take you out there,” Trent offered.
“No need. I’ve got one of those.”
Trent’s eyebrow lifted, obviously curious.
“My grandfather,” he stated.
“If you don’t mind me asking…”
“Xavier Thomas.”
Trent grinned. “No need to explain further. I recognize the name.”
Dylan figured he would. Xavier Thomas was a billionaire who had worked his entire life to get where he was today. Plenty of people had heard of him.
“Again, I’ll get my lawyer to send the information over.” Trent glanced down at his watch. “I have to run. I’m heading to California in a couple of hours. Need to take care of a few things first. I’m looking forward to working with you, Dylan.”
“As am I,” he said, shaking Trent’s hand as the man stood. “And I’m covering breakfast.”
Trent smirked. “That’s probably a first.”
Yeah, well, Dylan damn sure wasn’t looking for any handouts.
“Call me when you check out the club. Let me know what you think. We’ll get together next week and walk through the blueprints and the design.”
Dylan nodded. “Will do.”
With that, Trent was out the door and Dylan was still trying to catch up with the conversation. He took a moment to breathe before he pulled his phone from his pocket.
Now it was time to call Sarah.
Looked as though a trip was in their immediate future after all.
“VEGAS?” SARAH COULDN’T KEEP THE surprise out of her voice.
She also couldn’t keep the smile off her face. Standing in her living room, holding the phone to her ear while she danced in place, she knew she looked like a loon. Still, her smile widened.
“Yes, ma’am,” Dylan crooned. “You said you’ve never been, so I figured this would be a good time for us to check it out.”
“Is this business or pleasure?”
“Both.”
“So you talked to Trent Ramsey?” She still had a hard time believing that Dylan knew the famous actor.
“I did. He offered me the job.”
“Wow. That’s … awesome. Did you accept?”
“I did. Well, provided the numbers all work out. But I did agree to go check out a club in Vegas.”
“And you want to take me along.” It wasn’t a question. She liked that he’d called, that he wanted her to go along with him. Even though it felt a little fast, Sarah wasn’t above spending more time with this man.
“I do.”
There was a strange feeling in her chest. Her heart was swelling, close to bursting. Ever since Saturday night, Sarah had been talking to Dylan every day. They hadn’t seen each other since he dropped her off on Sunday evening, but she was partially to blame for that. Once she got home, reality had set in, and she’d needed a little time to come to terms with everything. After talking to Elaine, Sarah felt a little better.
One day at a time.
Those words continued to play over and over in her head. She was trying to ensure she did just that, but it seemed as though things were moving fast.
Then again, they’d started this three years ago, so maybe fast wasn’t the right word to use to describe it.
“Say you’ll go with me, Sarah,” Dylan said softly.
“Yes,” she blurted. “I’ll go with you. When?”
“Tomorrow morning.”
“Wow. Okay. That’s a quick turnaround.”
Dylan chuckled. “When you meet Trent, you’ll see that’s his normal speed. Our flight leaves at ten, so I’ll pick you up at nine.”
“Don’t we need to be at the airport early?” She knew there were still heightened security measures in place, which meant the security lines were usually long.
“I’ve got it all taken care of.”
“Okay, then. I guess I’ll have to trust you.” Sarah glanced around her house. “How long are we going for?”
“Two nights, three days.”
That should make it relatively easy to pack. “Okay.”
“Do you need me to come over and help you pick out your clothes?”
Sarah chuckled at the seductive note in his voice. “I think I’ve got it covered.” She knew if she allowed him to come over, packing would be the last thing that got done.
