Crash and Burn (Back Down Devil MC #2)(26)

“Avery…”

“I don’t care,” Avery said. “Just open the f*cking door. Or better yet, just let me f*cking leave.”

Landon grabbed her by the arms and Avery felt that trigger of fight being pulled. She kicked and clawed. Bry used to do this kind of shit to her too. Avery would listen to Bry f*ck women and she always knew when it was over… and then it would be her turn. He’d f*ck anyone he wanted, but then he’d come and rape Avery.

“Stop it,” Landon ordered. “Dammit.”

“No. Why am I here? I didn’t have a thing to do with that bomb. I have nothing to do with this MC. Let me the f*ck go.”

Landon opened his hands and Avery jumped back. She looked at him and she saw him coming back at her, this time leading with his mouth. She had every chance to move but she didn’t. She let Landon kiss her. She welcomed the taste of his lips and even more, she welcomed the taste of his tongue. It lasted only a few seconds before Avery pushed him away.

“Go f*ck your whores,” Avery said.

“Yeah, right,” Landon said. “That’s not a whore, sweetheart. I don’t pay for it. Ever. I get what the f*ck I want.”

“You’re a f*cking *. Tell me why the f*ck I’m here.”

Landon took out the key to his room and unlocked the door. He put his hand to the small of Avery’s back and pushed. She was no match to his strength… or his touch. Fuck, why did it make her wet when he touched her?

Landon shut the door and locked it.

“Want to know why you’re here?” Landon asked.

He was against Avery now. Their bodies touching, hands not. Avery stared deep into his eyes.

“Tell me,” Avery said.

“Because I f*cking care. That’s why. Because if you go out there…”

“Something happened today.”

“What?”

“One of Bry’s men were in town. It was close but that guy protected me.”

“Damn,” Landon said.

Avery swallowed hard. She wanted to punch Landon in the face so hard. But at the same time, he did nothing wrong. He could f*ck anyone he wanted. He could do whatever he wanted. Including care about Avery.

“What now?” Avery asked.

“I’m taking a f*cking shower,” Landon said. “I have to fight tonight to make money for the MC.”

“Fight…?”

Landon walked away from Avery. She suddenly felt cold. The bathroom door swung shut, but it didn’t completely close. There was enough space to tease Avery, so she stood and watched Landon strip. The jeans fell, the boxers fell, the t-shirt came off his body. He stood at the sink with his head down. His back rippled with muscle. His ass was whiter than the rest of his body. Avery pictured Landon’s ass flexing as he f*cked that other woman, but there was still a part of her that wanted to have the chance to be with Landon. More so, to show him he didn’t need some MC whore to enjoy himself.

When Landon turned and reached for a towel, Avery saw his cock. Flaccid, but still long, thick, and beautiful. The show was brief because Landon moved out of view and turned on the water in the shower. Avery sat on the bed. Maybe there were just times in life when coming to terms with everything was simply bullshit. The sound of the water running tempted Avery. She kicked off her shoes, stripped off her socks, and walked to the bathroom. Her toes felt chilly as she stepped on to the moist, cool tile on the bathroom floor. The shower had a glass door. A see through glass door.

Avery stopped at the sight of Landon standing with his hands against the wall, the water beating at the back of his head and neck, rushing down his body.

“What do you want?” Landon asked.

“I want to know about the fights,” Avery said.

Landon opened the door a little. He looked out at Avery. “I want to know what the f*ck happened today with you. Right now.”

Avery jumped up to the bathroom sink and folded her hands. “I don’t know… he was just there.”

“Why weren’t you where you belonged? You think I’m an idiot?”

“No, Landon, I don’t. I got scared and walked away for a minute, okay? I don’t understand why you want me here or need me here. I have no purpose and I was right… Bry is going to find me. He has his guys here and that guy today is going to rush right back to Bry. Then he’ll know.”

“Maybe that’s what I want,” Landon said.

“What you want?”

“Look, there’s only one way to ever settle things in life, Avery. You f*cking face it. You keep f*cking running and it’ll keep chasing you. If that was me and some bitch was running just to be a bitch, I’d chase her to the end of the world just to prove a point. And each day that went by I’d get more and more pissed off. Get it?”

“You called me Avery.” Avery’s cheeks burned. Between her legs, she was a mess, again.

“Seriously? That’s what you pick up on?”

“I’m sorry I walked away,” Avery said. “But that doesn’t change how I feel, okay? I’m not some emotionless bitch in your MC clubhouse that gets passed around like a whiskey bottle. I’m… I’m scared of him…” Avery’s bottom lip quivered. “I’m scared of Bry. You’re not, but I am.”
