Wolf Slayer (The Order of the Wolf, #2)(6)

“Oh!” Aubrey felt a jolt along her back, like one doozy of a static shock came with the hug.

Darcy pulled away and winked. “Sorry about that, sometimes my hugs come with a little extra.”

“No worries, it happens.” Aubrey frowned, suddenly feeling like a fog had wrapped around her brain. Her shoulders relaxed a little and she let out a breath, releasing any concerns she might have had.

This was the person she needed to guard? Darcy wasn’t giving the expected helpless, kept woman vibes. She actually looked quite confident. Aubrey gave a mental shrug, letting that thought slither away. With the crowds as she’d seen them, Aubrey could definitely understand the need for a little added protection.

“I’d like to chat about your daily routines, get an idea of what kind of protection you’ll be needing from me,” Aubrey said.

Dave stepped forward after a quick glance at Mayhem. “Let’s get you situated in a room first. We’ll be staying here for a few days before the European tour begins.”

“Sounds good.” Aubrey adjusted her bow case’s shoulder strap again, feeling a little disoriented. She needed a few minutes alone to collect her thoughts and figure out what the f*ck had thrown her off. Try to reclaim whatever it was that had tripped her instincts.

“We’ll meet in the kitchen in an hour,” Mayhem said, his voice as commanding as his appearance. “Jay, show Aubrey to her room.”

Aubrey’s gaze snapped to Jaylon’s, her face once again starting to warm. And there it was a second time—her gut telling her to watch this guy, which was all fine and good since that was exactly what she wanted to do. Watch him rip his shirt off, undo his pants, pull out his gigantic… She gulped. “No need to bother, you can just tell me—”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Jaylon said, his voice gruff, like she’d offended him or something. He stalked toward her, then took her bow from her shoulder and suitcase from her hand so quickly she’d be stammering again if she had a voice to actually use at that moment. He turned and walked down the hall, his demeanor suggesting that she’d better follow.

Damn, the man totally unhinged her.

“Did I do something to offend him?” Aubrey croaked, too stunned to hedge her words and feign nonchalance.

“Nah, he’s always like that. Just takes a bit to get to know him. He’s a softie on the inside,” Darcy said with another wink. “It’s best you don’t take that from him though. You know, the bossy shit? Strong women enthrall him.”

Aubrey frowned. Now why would that matter to her? And why did the idea of enthralling him make her heart hammer hard and her body tighten, tingle and moisten in all the right places?

Aubrey steeled herself. Darcy was right—she knew exactly how to handle a man like Jaylon. Cocky, self-assured, dominating. “I’ll have no problem giving him a smack down if he steps outta line,” she said, her confidence wavering slightly while her voice held steady. “I’m capable of taking down bigger beasts…er…men than him.”

Darcy laughed. “Oh yeah, you’re gonna fit right in here.”

Chapter Four

Okay, what the f*ck?

Jaylon refused to look behind him even though he was desperate to make sure she was following him. It took all his power not to command her to do so. Lusting over her picture was one thing, but seeing her in real life? That was like nothing he had been prepared for. His wolf clamored for control, urging him to lay claim before someone else did. He’d been riding the edge since Dave told him of her imminent arrival and now that she was in the house, his wolf wanted fangs in skin ASAP.

Mine. Now.

He sucked in a deep breath, before letting it out with a low growl.

“You don’t have to do this.”

And suddenly she was almost in line with him, her stealth a little unnerving.

“Huh?” he grunted.

She made to take her suitcase from him but he yanked it away and kept walking, leaving her behind a few steps, puzzled by his behavior to be sure. He congratulated himself on his classy moves; winning the lady over with his personality was so not going to happen.

“What is up with you?” She was next to him again, her mouth-watering scent making his dick even harder. Like it wasn’t steel already from just the sight of her.

She touched his arm and his wolf practically leapt from his body. He dropped her bags to the floor, then bullied her back until she was pressed up against the wall. Her eyes were wide with shock. Not fear, he noted, but surprise. His wolf liked that. In his mind, he was screaming to back up and get his shit together but his body had other plans. He had to force himself not to grind his rock hard cock against her stomach.

He stared down at her, getting lost in those blue eyes. His breath came out in hard pants as he desperately tried to reel himself in. He wanted to taste those pink lips, shove his tongue into her mouth and explore her. He wanted to run his hands up her sides, feel her ribs, her lean curves, cup her breasts, tease her nipples. He wanted so bad that he ached.

“Your eyes have the most beautiful golden streaks in them. Are you wearing contacts?”

Her question was like a slap of cold water to the face. His wolf was pushing through. His eyes turned golden when he was the beast. A trait he and Raven shared, perhaps because they’d been bitten by the same wolf so long ago.
